Disaster recovery is a process, policies and procedures related to preparing for recovery or continuation of technology infrastructure critical to an organization after a natural or human-induced disaster. Hexahost provides DR(Disaster Recovery) solutions in Shared hosting environment.

How HexaDR works ? :

1. Once a customer signup for HexaDR the customer will be provided with a sftp account in HexaDR storage servers.
2. DNS records for HexaDR Customers will be maintained in our Anycast DNS clusters. The DNS records will be ponited to his current hosting server.
3. The customer will login to his cpanel account and configures remote backup.
4. Once the backup completed, the tar-ball will be stored in his HexaDR Storage account.
5. From HexaDR server all the accounts will be backed up on a daily basis.
6. HexaDR Daily backups retention will be 30 days. ie the daily backup stored on day will be maintained in the backup for the next 30 days.
7. In case of human error and the error is not uncorrectable, the customer request a HexaDR ticket. HexaDR team will restore the backup from HexaDR server to his original Cpanel server.
8. In case of the original cpanel server fails due to hardware failure, the backup will be restored to another HexaDR hosting server.
9. In case of Natural disaster such as earthquake etc, the backup will be restored in a HexaDR hosting server located in another geographical region.
10. The DNS records will be pointed to the new location ie: HexaDR hosting server. The time when the HexaDR restoration initiated is called DR invocation Time.
11. From HexaDR invocation time the hosting account will be hosted in the HexaDR hosting server for 30 days. This 30days period is called HexaDR hosting period.
13. During the HexaDR hosting period, the customer may a) Rebuild his website in his original hosting account b) Choose a suitable hosting plan for his website in Hexahost or any other hosing provider of his choice.
14. Once the HexaDR hosing period is over, his account will be revoked from HexaDR hosting server. But daily backups will be taken from HexaDR storage server.

HexaDR Specifications: :

1) HexaDR is an annual subscription plan. Charges for 1 unit of HexaDR subscription is 10 USD per year.

2) One unit of HexaDR service includes

a) 2GB Storage from HexaDR storage server.
b) Daily backup from HexaDR Storage server with a Daily backup retention of 30 days.
c) HexaDR invocation of upto two times in a year.
d) Hosting account specifications during HexaDR hosting invocation:
3000 MB diskspace
30000 MB of transfer(both download and upload included for 30days)
Unmetered E-mail accounts
Unmetered Addon domains
e) Once HexaDR hosting period is completed the hosting account will be revoked and daily backups will continue till the HexaDR service subscription expires.

3) For all Hexahost Premium hosting customers 1 unit of HexaDR service is free as long as they are Hexahost Premium hosting customers. In case of Change of plan or the customer moved out from Hexahost, his HexaDR account will be removed.

Note :

1) HexaDR service is not a backup/mirror hosting service. Your website in HexaDR will not be live when your current website is active. It is a Disaster recovery service.
2) No illegal content allowed. There is no space for spam, illegal contents, wares, cracks of any kind.
3) Proxy IRC hosting is not allowed in HexaDR.

There are many ways to backup your website content and move to new host. Since Cpanel has become a ubiquitous utility, Taking your whole Cpanel backup and moving to your new host is easy to follow idea. Hexahost provides Cpanel access to all hosting plans. This article talks about “how to move your Wordpress weblog alone from one web host to another web hosting provider”. Moving only one website alone from one hosting provider to another hosting provider has lot of advantages. This helps you to understand the options/features provided by your new hosting provider. One among widely used strategies is to move any one of your small in size website to the new host.

Follow the simple steps described below to move your Wordpress

• Backup the database from the old host and import it to the new host. Pay attention to database names, user names, and DB password.

• Change your wp-config.php in the old host in order to point to the database on the new host. “i.e local host to newhost.com” Your web site will run using database based on the new hosting provider. Every change in your website will get reflected in new hosting provider’s Database. (You may want to check with your new hosting if they allow outside database access first. If not, you can skip this step and transfer the whole site content and DB to the new host, Test them by using ip. For example http://newhostip/~username/ will take it your content in the new host)

• Backup your entire WordPress installation from the old site (this will include all your uploads, themes, plugins)

• Unpack your WordPress installation to the new site

• Change wp-config.php DB source to local host. Even without changing them site will work.

• Change the nameservers to point to the new site

• That’s all now you only need to wait for DNS propagation

Your website will be active through old content and new DB till it gets full propagation, after complete propagation your website will be active from new hosting provider. Since nameserver propagation can take up to one day, step 2 allows you to have up to date database at the moment it happens. Downside to this is slower site response in the meantime because site still runs from the old server and the database is on the new. But if you do this over the night or periods of low traffic it won’t be that noticeable and you will not lose any comments or other activity on your site.

Above stated steps can be use for any website, provided you should know which file controls your DB name and place. For Wordpress it is wp-config.php.
