• Never Leave your passwords(Cpanel or FTP account info) in Your FTP clients. Do not save ftp passwords in your html editors like dream weaver, Expression web, Frontpage etc.
• Never use pirated software for your FTP clients. If you can not afford a paid software like cuteftp, Use open source software such as filezilla, winscp etc.  Crack programs may steel your passwords and send it to Black hats.
• Make sure your Hosting provider used no-suid option to mount /tmp file system.
• Make sure your hosting provider scans the hosting servers for vulnerability, and implemented Brute force and Denial of service protection. Ask them security related questions like “How frequently you do vulnerability scan in your servers?”
• Change your Cpanel passwords at frequent intervals. Use complex passwords for cpanel users, ftp users and database users.
• In your webroot (public_html or www directory) do not have word writable permissions. ie: read,write and execute permission for all. Give grant all permissions for your database only when you require. Check with your hosting provider if they are using –skip-external-locking in MYSQL database.

  • Use gftp instead of FTP

• Check twice before you add external scripts to your web site
• Check twice before you add iframe tags to your site
