We offer 99.9% guaranteed server up time as part of our service level agreement. monitor.hexahost.com Online monitoring utility will monitor all our server’s up time, connectivity, Service status, current memory utilization, current and cpu load. Monitor utility is not just for customers but also for monitoring team and disaster recovery team. Monitoring team will monitor the service, load and up time on 24×7 basis. Monitoring utility constantly monitors our web hosting network for slow or failing components and that notifies the network administrator in case of outages.

Why Monitor.hexahost?

Monitoring is essential to ensure that a website is available to users and downtime is minimized. We understand the criticality of your websites. WWW is the core medium of information sharing place. Users that rely on a website or an application for work or pleasure will get frustrated or even stop using the application if it is not reliably available. Monitoring can cover many things that an application needs to function, like network connectivity, Domain Name System records, database connectivity, bandwidth, and computer resources like free RAM, CPU load, disk space, events, etc. Commonly measured metrics are response time and availability (or uptime), but consistency and reliability metrics are used by internal teams.

How monitor.hexahost works ?

To determine the status of hexahost webserver, monitoring software will periodically send an HTTP request to fetch a page. For email servers, a test message will be sent through SMTP and retrieved by IMAP or POP3. Physical connectivity to the system, latency to the server, server response time are computed using ICMP ping request and response methods. Server CPU usage, memory usage, disk usages are monitored on system level checks using scripts.

We also monitor our servers from third party system for second level monitoring. We also advise our customer to use 3rd party utilities like host-tracker, hostmonitor, host peek.

With this we are a step ahead of reaching our aim “SIMPLIFIED HOSTING”

HAPPY HOSTING!

In our constant endeavor to improve web hosting security, we have been implementing safe solutions like publications on shared hosting security, security audits, email hosting and web hosting from distinct servers to safe guard our customer hosting environment.

Some more hosting tips to protect your shared hosting environments are,

Safe information provided from safe place is a precise remake of well known saying “information is wealth”. Love it or hate it shared hosting has some unique challenges on information security.

In our constant endeavor to improve web hosting security, we have been implementing safe solutions like publications on shared hosting security, security audits, email hosting and web hosting from distinct servers to safe guard our customer hosting environment.

Some more hosting tips to protect your shared hosting environments are,

Never Leave your passwords(Cpanel or FTP account info) in Your FTP clients. Do not save ftp passwords in your html editors like dream weaver, Expression web, Frontpage etc.

Never use pirated software for your FTP clients. If you can not afford a paid software like cuteftp, Use open source software such as filezilla, winscp etc. Crack programs may steel your passwords and send it to Black hats.

Make sure your Hosting provider used no-suid option to mount /tmp file system.

Make sure your hosting provider scans the hosting servers for vulnerability, and implemented Brute force and Denial of service protection. Ask them security related questions like “How frequently you do vulnerability scan in your servers?”

Change your Cpanel passwords at frequent intervals. Use complex passwords for cpanel users, ftp users and database users.

In your webroot (public_html or www directory) do not have word writable permissions. ie: read, write and execute permission for all. Give grant all permissions for your database only when you require. Check with your hosting provider if they are using –skip-external-locking in MYSQL database.

Share hosting security should be an ongoing process. Look for more and more ways to protect your hosted online information. Share what you learn, let us built a safe hosting.

A well designed place to park your web contents “Hosting” is the origin for many security threads around WWW (World Wide Web). A common storage/hardware used by number of users. Service provider responsibility is to provide safe shared hosting environment in both physical, and systems front. Web site owners also equally responsible to mange their allocated space and services through their web site.

Few points to improve shared hosting Security

Operating System – unless other wise very demanding do not go for Windows hosting. A well known fact billion dollar anti virus business is based on not so protected Windows environment

Do not use Web hosting and email hosting from same server. Email is a popular medium to spread infections. Separate email and web hosting server increases service redundancy. It helps on saving server load too

Use SMTP for system/CMS/application emails. Avoid scripts to send/receive emails

Be careful when you upload files to server

Hosting panel mode of uploading file is preferable

Do not use web browser as FTP client

Do not save your FTP user name and password

Use gftp instead of FTP

protect your files with md5 hash and tar/compress/zip it unzip/untar/decompress it in server

Implement password policy and change frequently

Check your web hosting server IP before you take up the service

Check twice before you add external scripts to your web site

Check twice before you add iframe tags to your site

Securing your web hosting doesn’t stop with above mentioned points. A lot have to be done including log tracking, access tracking, web site usage tracking. Webmaster tools will help in grater extent about site security.

Happy Hosting!
